Professor Pullela Sri Ramachandrudu carved a niche for himself in the galaxy of contemporary
Indian Scholars as a person well versed in three Sastras – Vyakarana, Vedanta and Alankara
(Indian Poetics), as being proficient in four languages – Sanskrit, Telugu, English and Hindi with
highest University Degrees in each of them, as a translator, as a literary critic, as a poet of merit
with three volumes of poetical collections and a full length drama in Sanskrit and as an author
of about 140 works in different languages on different subjects.

Born on 23 rd October 1927 in Indupalli, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, he studied
Sanskrit from his childhood, in the Gurukula System under his father Sri Satuyanarayana Sastry
and a great Grammarian, Sri Kompalla Subbaraya Sastri and passed “Vedanta Siromani”, the
highest examination in Sanskrit, securing First rank in first winning the Gold Medal in the
Madras University.
Sri Ramachandrudu started his career in his 21 st year of age, as a teacher of Sanskrit which he
continued for Forty years in various Capacities. For three years he worked in a high School, for
nine years in a degree college at his native town and joined the service in the Osmania
University, Hyderabad, in 1960. He retired here in 1991 as professor of Sanskrit and Director of
Sanskrit Academi having worked as professor emeritus in the last three years. While working,
he obtained the three M.A. degrees in Sanskrit, Hindi and English from the Banaras Hindu
University, “Vidwan” in Telugu from the Madras University and Ph.D. in Sanskrit from the
Osmania University. He served as member in the Academic bodies of the Govt. of India and
various Universities. Was member, Central Sanskrit Board – 1993-96; Member, Executive
Council S.L.B.S. Sanskrta Vidyapith, Delhi for 6 years; was member Executive Council, Rashtriya
Sanskrit University, Tirupati for 6 years. Presently Member of Executive Board, Central Sahitya
Akademi, New Delhi. Has been associated with many Sanskrit organizations in Hyderabad.
